Abstract
1,156,128. Axial-flow fans. TRANE CO. Sept.15, 1967 [Oct. 4, 1966], No. 42119/67. Heading F1C. [Also in Division F4] A unit air heater or cooler comprises a casing 1 having an outlet 6 and including a heat exchange coil 10, a plurality of single or multi-stage axial-flow fans 26 on a shaft 22 and a sheet metal member 30 having baffles 28 to deflect air-flow from the fans to the outlet 6. The casing includes recirculated and fresh air inlets each controlled by a damper, and the heat exchanger is provided with a damper controlled by-pass. Apan 13 is provided to collect condensate from the heat exchange coil. The walls of the casing and baffles 28 are covered with heat insulating material and fibrous sound dampening material 42 respectively. An air filter is placed between the air inlets and the fans 26. Stationary turning vanes may be employed in the fan discharge paths to assist the air deflection to the outlet 6. The fan shaft 22 is driven through a flexible coupling 20 by a motor 18. In another embodiment, for air heating only, the heat exchange coil 10 is positioned below the fans 26 and the by-pass and pan 13 are omitted.
