Abstract

1313438 Unit convector space heating or cooling apparatus D MILES 16 Dec 1971 [6 Sept 1971] 41492/71 Headings F4S and F4V Convector space heating or cooling apparatus operating by natural or forced convection comprises a duct 21 (shown as an undulating passage) for a heating or cooling liquid, at least one wall of the duct being shaped to define with a plate 28, air channels 41, the apparatus having also a front panel 34 and the construction being such that this panel remains at a temperature significantly lower than that of the wall of duct 21. As shown, the duct 21 is formed from two metal sheets 22, 23 shaped to provide at each end of the duct an enlarged chamber 24, 25 said to provide a more even distribution of liquid in duct 21. A rear plate 27 with louvres 29 therein is affixed to the sheet 22 and defines therewith air channels 42 generally similar to channels 41 which are defined by plate 28 this plate also having louvres 29 therein. The front panel 34 which may form part of an external casing, Fig. 3, is soldered to glued in position against a corrugated intermediate plate 31 this being bonded to plate 28 only by dimples 33, Fig. 1, formed in said plate, whereby when the apparatus is used for heating the front panel can only attain a relatively lower temperature than that of the wall of the heating liquid duct 21. Two further forms of liquid duct are deseribed (Figs. 5, 6, 7). A louvred corrugated sheet (83, Fig. 7) may replace the plates 28, 31, the front panel being secured to this sheet (83). In a forced-convection air heating or cooling apparatus Fig. 11 (and Figs. 9 and 10), the air is either drawn or blown through the channels 41, 42 by a fan unit which may comprise several fan rotors 104 mounted on a common shaft. The fan unit which may be mounted above (as shown) or below the air ducts, includes a housing 102 with a louvred front 103. A thermostat 109 switches the fan motor on or off according to the temperature of air entering the apparatus and is replaceable so that it can be changed for winter and summer conditions.
