787,551. Unit air-conditioning apparatus. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD. SANITARY CORPORATION. April 26, 1956 [May 5, 1955], No. 12865/56. Class 137 In an air-conditioning unit comprising a core consisting of a blower assembly 1, a heat exchanger and drip pan unit 2 and a filter box unit 3, the drip pan 30 has pan portions which extend beneath the heat exchanger when the unit is disposed horizontally as well as vertically. The drip pan 30, extending across two sides of the heat exchanger composed of finned pipes 27, has a front wall 31 and a right angularly disposed wall 32, both walls having flanges on three of their edges to form a complete pan. Drain pipes 33, 34 are provided. Two plates 35, 36 disposed on the outer faces of two end plates 25, 26 supporting the heat exchange tubes 27, direct condensate from reverse bend couplings 37 into the drip pan 30 when the unit is vertical. The blower unit consists of a cylindrical centrifugal rotor 10 having its shaft ends rotatably mounted within recesses 46 in a pair of plates 44 removably fitted within flanged openings 41, 42 formed respectively in side plates 39; 40 of a rotor casing also having a front plate 54 joined to an arcuate plate 55 and a rear arcuate plate 56 which is joined to a baffle plate 38 for directing air, drawn through the unit by the rotor 10, over the pipes, 27. Two perforated sound absorbing plates 59, 60 extend from the upper edges of the two arcuate plates 55, 56 to an outlet 12. The filter box 3, accommodating a filter unit 7, has an inlet opening 5 leading to a source of fresh air and an inlet opening 6 communicating with recirculated air, the proportion of recirculated to fresh air entering the unit being determined by the position of a damper 19 which is mounted on end plates 20, 21 pivoted to end panels 15, 16 of the filter box 3. An over centre tension spring 23 is provided for retaining the damper in full, or dotted line positions, a number of holes 24 being provided in one end plate 15 for adjusting the tension of the spring. A motor, not shown, for driving the rotor is mounted on a plate extended beyond the plate 39. For mounting the core unit withing a casing, there are provided a pair of brackets such as 62 and a rubber pad 64.
