H. ; 276, North Whitney Street, Hartford, both in Connecticut, U.S.A.) June 29, 1932, No. 18416. Convention date, July 21, 1931. [Class 137.] A ventilating unit, more particularly for a wall opening, comprises a casing 1 having an inlet 4 and outlet 26, one or more easy-curving sound attenuating passages, one or more blowers 9, and attemperating means 22. The casing is divided longitudinally by a partition 2, the inlet side housing the blowers and, adjacent the inlet, a filter comprising a zig-zag web 6 arranged on rods 7 secured to the rear wall of the casing. The filter may be kept moist for humidifying purposes. Air passes by way of openings 11 in the partition 2 into the sound-attenuating passages which are formed by vertical plates 13, 14, 16 and by semicircular plates 15, 17 and finally the air passes through attemperating means 22 to the outlet 26 in the top of the casing. The passages are lined with felt or other soundabsorbing material and in order that the parts of the apparatus should be readily accessible, the plates are secured to and may be removed with the front plate 28 of the casing. The lower part of the partition 2 is hinged at 30 and after the removal of the plate 28 may be swung inwardly of the room thus exposing the filter, the blowers and motors. In one form, the casing may be positioned in a wall below a window, the outlet 26 forming a grill in the window sill.
