3 Claims.
This invention relates to humidifier cabinets.
An object of this invention is to provide a cabi-' net of the character described, in which is mounted a humidifier to add moisture to the air in the cabinet, and to circulate the air within the cabinet, the humidifier being provided with a humidostat to control a magnetic valve in the water inlet to the humidifier and the motor for the humidifier; and the cabinet being provided with a separate chamber to house the magnetic valve, substantially an of the wiring for said valve and motor, and an electric outlet for the wiring, and the cabinet being provided with a door for said chamber, whereby said magnetic valve, wiring and outlet will not be affected by the moisture within the cabinet, and can be reached through said chamber door and without opening the door of the cabinet.
A further object of this invention is to provide a highly improved humidifier unit embodying the invention, provided with a motor mounted on a frame carrying a screen to protect the fan, the motor being entirely disposed within the humidifier box, and being removable therefrom with the frame and protecting screen, the fan being so arranged as to blow air over the motor to cool the same.
Still a further object of this invention is to provide a humidifier of the character described, including a removable air filter filled with glass wool to provide a large capillary surface to hold water and impart moisture to the air, the humidifier being provided with a fixed apertured pipe to drip water over the filter, and said filterbeing constructed to permit easy replacement of the glass wool.
Yet a further object of this invention is to provide a humidifier cabinet of the character described, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and yet practical and efiicient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a humidifier cabinet embodying the invention, with parts broken away, and in cross-section;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1;

' ignates a humidifier cabinet embodying the invention. The same has a front wall I I, side walls [2 and [3, a base or bottom wall 14, a top wall l5 and a rear wall IS. The front wall II is formed with a plurality of door openings l9 closed by hinged doors 2B of any suitable'construction.
' Within the top of the cabinet is a chamber 2i formed by a wall 22 parallel to the side wall l3, and spaced therefrom, contacting the top and rear walls, a wall 23 parallel to the top wall 15 and interconnecting the side wall l3 with the lower end of wall 22, and a front wall 24 parallel to the rear wall I6 and interconnecting the front edges of walls 22 and 23 with the top and side walls. The side wall 13 of the cabinet is formed with a door opening 28 communicating with the chamber 2|, and closed by a hinged door 29.
Within the cabinet and supported on the bot-- tom wall thereof, is a stand 36 comprising side frames 3| supporting a plurality of screen shelves 32. Atthe top of the stand 30 is a metal shelf 34. Mounted on the shelf 34 is an improved humidifier 35 for adding moisture to the air in the cabinet and to circulate the air in the cabinet. Said humidifier 35 comprises a casing or box 36 made of sheet metal. The casing 36 has an enlarged square shaped portion 3'! at one end, a reduced square shaped portion 38 at the other end, and a tapering portion 39 interconnecting the enlarged portion with the reduced portion.
At one end of theenlarged portion 3! is an end wall 39a formed with an opening 40 closed by a screen'4l. The casing 36 is supported by short legs 42 beneath the enlarged portion 31 and longer legs 43 beneath the reduced portion 38. The legs 42 and 43 are fixed to the top shelf 34 in any suitable manner.
The front wall 44 of the enlarged portion 31 of casing 36 'is formed with an oblong opening 45, and slidably inserted into the casing through said opening, is a filter 46. The filter 46 comprises a front wall 48 provided with'a handle 43.
The front wall 48 overlaps the front wall 44 of the casing portion 3?.
Fixed to the front wall 48 is a frame 50 comprising parallel side portions 5! and 52 interconnected by top and bottom portions 54 and 55 and by the rear portion 60. The portions 5|, 54, 55 and 60 carry screens 5la, 54a, 55a and 60a, respectively, forming walls of the filter. Removably attached to one of the side portions 52, as by screws or in any other suitable manner, is a rectangular frame 6d carrying a screen 65.
Between the screens SM, 65, 54a, 55a, 60a and the front wall 48 is glass wool 65. The glass wool may be replaced by removing frame 64.
Any suitable guide means within the casing 36 may be provided to slidably support the filter. The filter may be removed from the casing 36 by withdrawing the same from the opening 45.
On the bottom wall 31a of casing portion 37, is a pan 10 formed with a drain opening registering with an opening in said bottom wall. Attached to said drain opening is a drain pipe H extending through an opening 12 in the side wall l3 of the cabinet.
The top'wall 31b of easing portion 31 is formed with an opening 15 for an inlet pipe 16. Attached to the lower end of pipe 16 is a horizontal pipe 11 located in the top of the casing portion 31 and above the filter. The pipe H is formed with perforations 18 to permit water to drip down on the filter.
Extending from pipe 16 is a horizontal pipe 80 passing through an opening 8! in wall 23. of chamber 2i. Pipe 80 may be provided with a hand valve 83 if desired. Connected to said pipe and disposed within chamber 21 is a vertical downwardly extending pipe 86 provided with a magneto control valve 85. Extending from the lower end of pipe 84 is a horizontal pipe 86 passing through an opening 8! in the cabinet. Water is supplied to the pipe 86, thus passing to the drip ll.
It will be noted that the magnetic valve 85 is located in chamber 2| and thus cannot be affected by moisture within the cabinet.
Fixed within the casing portion 38, in any suitable manner, is a frame 90 having a rectangular wall 9| contacting the inner surface of the casing portion 38, and a vertical end wall 92 provided with a screen 93. Fixed to the bottom wall 95 of the frame portion 9|, is a bracket 96 carrying a motor 97 provided with a fan 98 located. adjacent the screen 93. The blades of the fan 98 are so inclined as to blow air over the motor 91 toward the filter 46, thus keeping the motor cool. The screen 93 protects the fan. 1
It will now be observed that the motor 91 together with bracket 96 and frame 90 may be removed as a whole from the casing 36.
On the side of the wall 22 facing the interior of the cabinet, is a humidostat I00. Mounted on the side of the wall 22 facing the interior of the chamber 2!, is an electric outlet NH.
It will now be noted that the humidostat is located within the cabinet. Said humidostat is connected in series circuit with both the magnetic valve 85 and motor 91, whereas, said valve and motor are in parallel circuit with each other. The wiring is mainly confined within the chamber 2| where it will not be affected by moisture.
The glass wool in the filter is without Vaseline or the like'material and provides a large capillary surface to hold water for imparting moisture to the art. The purpose of the glass wool is not to collect dust, but to moisten the air within the cabinet.
It will be noted that the drip pipe H is permanently fixed within the casing, whereas, the filter is removable.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a -device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a. limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In combination, a cabinet having a door, a chamber within the cabinet, 8. wall of the cabinet having a door communicating with the chamber, said chamber being closed to the interior of the cabinet, a humidifier within said cabinet, 9. water inlet pipe connected to said humidifier, and a magnetic valve on said inlet pipe and disposed within said chamber.
2. In combination, a cabinet having a door, a chamber within the cabinet, a wall of the cabinet having a door communicating with the chamber, said chamber beingclosed to the interior of the cabinet, a humidifier within said cabinet, a water inlet pipe connected to said humidifier, a magnetic valve on said inlet pipe and disposed within said chamber,-said humidifier provided with a motor driven fan, and a humidostat in the interior of the cabinet and controlling said magnetic valve and motor.
3. A filter comprising a front wall provided with a handle, a frame attached to the front wall and having a top portion, a bottom portion, side portions and a rear portion, screens on said top, bottom and rear portions and on one of said side portions, a second frame fixed to the other side portion of said frame and carrying a screen, and glass wool within said filter and between the screens and the front wall.
