Abstract

1,165,211. Ventilating. SOUND ATTENUATORS Ltd. 24 July, 1967 [22 April, 1966], No. 17843/66. Heading F4V. [Also in Division F1] In a ventilator the scroll chamber of a centrifugal fan is defined by the interior surface of a hollow slab of expanded plastics material, e.g. expanded polyurethane, to reduce the noise made by the fan or carried by air reaching the fan. The slab comprises a central portion 11, Fig. 1, and two side walls (12, 13), Fig. 2 (not shown). One or more sound-damping baffles 39 are also provided, each baffle comprising a sheet metal core covered with expanded plastic material. The ventilator is secured to the wall of a room, with its inlet communicating with a passage through the wall. Air is blown by the fan through passage 15, pipe bend 35, washable fabric filter bag 36 and an outlet grid in the top or front wall of a plastics sheet-metal outer casing 38. An electric heater may be arranged in the pipe bend. The compartment containing the filter bag may be lined with sound-damping material.
