Abstract
1386448 Air conditioners PREMIX Inc 9 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 37215/72 Heading F4V A casing for an air-conditioner adapted to fit in the thickness of a wall comprises an integral chassis having spaced side walls 15, 16 and a partition 17 defining separate front and rear compartments, the rear compartment having a floor extending between the side walls providing a first drain pan, a housing 36 for a blower on the front side of the partition, providing a platform 41 for the blower motor, air discharge openings 45 and a second drain pan surrounding the openings 45 and communicating by drain holes through the partition 17 with the first drain pan and sloping so that condensate collecting in the second drain pan passes to the first. The chassis may be a moulding of fibreglass reinforced plastic. The side walls have steps 19, 20 which, when the casing is in place in the opening in a wall, abut the inner face of the wall, the joint being sealed with a compressible gasket. The top of the chassis is closed by a cover 4 and the front by cover 5. The rear compartment houses a compressor 6, a condenser 7, a condenser fan 8 with motor 9. The blower 12 in the front compartment has upper halfhousings 40 and lower half-housings 50. Above the air discharge openings are an evaporator 10, a heating element 55, a guard screen 57 and a discharge grill 62. The fan 8 has a pick-up ring 34 adapted to pick-up condensate from the drain pan and allow it to be blown out through the condenser 7. Air from the room is drawn in through openings in the front cover 5, either heated or cooled and returned to the room.
