Abstract

1486461 Silencing centrifugal fans GREENWOOD AIRVAC VENTILATION Ltd 13 May 1975 [14 May 1974] 21404/74 Headings FIB and F1C [Also in Division F4] A ventilator comprises a casing 1 having therein a block 12 of sound-insulating material, e.g. polyurethane foam, in which is formed a small chamber 13, a channel 15 and a second chamber 14 forming part of an air passage through which air is passed by the fan impeller, the motor fan unit 18 being mounted on a plate 17, the plate together with the motor fan unit being removable bodily from the casing without disturbing the block 12. The casing 1 is attached to a wall via flanges 3, 4, with an inlet duct 7 extending through the wall, and is sealed to the wall by a self-adhesive gasket strip 11. From the chamber 14, the air passes via an aperture 20 in the plate 17 to a discharge grill 22 in a removable front cover 10. The plate 17 is provided with sound-absorbing members 19 on its front face and 24, 28 on flanges 23, 27. A sound-absorbing member 26 is carried by the cover 10, and a soundabsorbing member 25 located under the flange 23 is retained in position by the cover. The fan motor is controlled by a manually operable rheostat 16 and, it may be, a thermostat.
