Abstract

1,119,750. Centrifugal and axial-flow fans; silencing gaseous flow. TRANE CO. July 3, 1967 [July 5, 1966], No. 30610/67. Headings F1B and F1C. In a fan assembly, e.g. for circulating hot or cold air through an air conditioning system, the housing comprises a pair of lightweight sheetmetal casings 2, 4 with the inner casing 4 formed with a recess 10 having sound absorbing material, e.g. fibreglass, glass wool or felt, held therein by a perforated cylinder 12 or a wire mesh screen. The space between the casings 2, 4 is filled by foaming thereinto a load-bearing and thermalinsulating plastics material 16, e.g. polyurethane. The fan 20 may be of the axial-flow or centrifugal type. A driving motor or bearing block and drive pulley may be arranged on the fan drive shaft 42 within the air conditioner housing. Alternatively, the fan may be driven by a motor arranged inside a cylinder 26 or through a belt by a motor arranged on the external casing 2. A stator assembly 29 is secured within a diffuser 14 with the tips of its flow straightening vanes 30 in co-operative engagement with the diffuser wall, by forked clips 32 fitted over the vanes and fastened to the wall. End cap 34 is secured to the stator assembly by clips 36.
