Abstract

An open wood fire associated with a multiple heat recuperation system, has a duct under the hearth, which passes air upwards past a serpentine coil also under the hearth, and alongside which is another duct which discharges heated air downwards. Also located below floor level is a blower fan which forces air upwards through a recuperator duct behind the fire, finishing just below a ventilator blade inside the hood at the top. A bundle of heat exchanger tubes with zig-zag baffles inside is positioned immediately above the hearth. Further heat exchange ducts are placed either side of this heat exchanger, and these two exchangers also terminate below the hood. The heated air passing through selected ducts is then drawn downwards through the underfloor discharge duct and used to heat a desired area.
