1,155,093. Applying lubricants to synthetic filaments. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 July, 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 32170/66. Headings DID and D1F. In a process of drawing synthetic filaments and winding the drawn filaments using a ring and traveller arrangement, friction between the ring and traveller, and the traveller and the filaments is reduced during high speed (i.e. greater than 1500 ft./minute) operation by applying between 2.5 and 5% (as measured in a described manner on filaments taken from the package) by weight o.f an oil-based lubricant to the filaments before they reach the traveller. The lubricant may be an emulsion, may contain other lubricants or lubrication-improving agents and may be applied during any stage of the spinning or drawing of the filaments -for example by applying a high concentration of spin-finish at the spinning stage or by using an applicator roll after the drawing.
