Abstract

[Also in Divisions C2, C3, C5 and D1] Textile oils for application to undrawn synthetic and semi synthetic fibres comprise additives of the formulµ in which R is hydrogen or a C 1-19 hydrocarbon group, and metal salts thereof, to provide fibres having improved smoothness and antistatic properties. Specified textile oils are those based on mineral oils, higher aliphatic esters, silicone oils or copolymers of ethylene and propylene glycols which additionally contain a nonionic or anionic surface active agent. In Example 21 a composition based on silicone oil, n-propyl palmitate and nonylphenylpentaethylene oxide and containing the disodium salts of the above acids in which R is benzyl or cyclopentyl is applied by roller oiling to nylon yarns which are subsequently drawn to 70 deniers.
