Abstract

1319145 Super drawn polyester filaments KURARAY CO Ltd 23 Nov 1970 [22 Nov 1969 25 Dec 1969] 55579/70 Heading B5B In the "super-drawing" (i.e. drawing under conditions which prevent orientation and crystallization) of bundles of filaments of an amorphous linear polyester, containing preferably at least 80% of recurring ethylene terephthalate units, adhesion between filaments caused by super-drawing is prevented by applying thereto, before drawing, at least 0À05% by wt. of one or more compounds selected from R 1 -CO-O-A-H, and R 1 -O-A-CO-R 2 wherein A represents (CH 2 CH 2 O) n , (CH 2 .CH(CH 3 )O) m or wherein m, n and p are integers and R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl, aralkyl alkenyl or alkaryl group of 2-30C atoms. The compound may be applied undiluted or in solution, and conventional oiling finishes may also be applied. Drawing may be at 90-150‹ C. at a draw ratio of 1À5 : 1 to 51: 1 in a heated liquid, e.g. water, or gas. In examples the super-drawn filaments may be oriented by drawing over a heated pin or plate and may thereafter be crimped and heat-set. Filaments of less than 0À1 denier may be obtained. Many treating compounds are exemplified, and comparative examples are given.
