Abstract

Textile fibres are treated with an aqueous emulsion comprising a lubricating oil and two condensation products of ethylene oxide with a fatty alcohol, one in which the molecular proportion of ethylene oxide to fatty alcohol is between 1.5 and 5 to 1 and the other in which this proportion is between 15 and 30 to 1. The lubricant may be a mineral oil free from saponifiables and unsaturation. The emulsion may also comprise ethyl stearate or ethyl palmitate and may be used as a lubricant for drawing, draw-twisting, winding, weaving or knitting operations. In the examples the alcohol with which the ethylene oxide is condensed is cetyl alcohol. The fibres may be of nylon, polyacrylonitrile or cellulose acetate.
