Abstract

Textile materials are treated with the salt formed between an organic base and an acid phosphate ester of an addition product of ethylene oxide with (i) a primary aliphatic alcohol, (ii) an alkyl phenol, (iii) an alkyl amine, (iv) a fatty acid amide, or (v) a quaternary ammonium compound of an alkyl amine. Alcohols specified are dodecyl, cetyl and oleyl alcohols, nonanol and 3 : 5 : 5-trimethyl-hexanol-1. The fatty acid amide may be stearamide and the amines may be dodecylamine, cetyl amine or octadecyl amine. Specified phenols are octylphenol, nonyl phenol and octyl cresol. The addition products may contain from 3 to 40 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide. The organic bases may be mono-, di-or tri-ethanolamine, morpholine, pyridine or laurylamine. In examples, lubricants for wool and other fibres comprise: (15) sperm oil, castor oil and the diethanolamine salt of the acid phosphate ester of the addition product of octyl cresol and 9.6 mols. of ethylene oxide; (16) oleine and the diethanolamine salt of the acid phosphate ester of the addition product of octyl cresol and 7 mols. of ethylene oxide; (17) sinker oil, the diethanolamine salt of the acid phosphate ester of the addition product of nonyl phenol and 7 mols. of ethylene oxide, an addition product of oleyl alcohol and 2.5 mols. of ethylene oxide and water, acetone, glycerol or cyclo-hexanol. The lubricants of Examples (15)-(17) are easily removed by scouring.ALSO:Textile materials are treated with the salt of an organic base with an acid phosphate ester of an addition product of ethylene oxide and a primary aliphatic alcohol, an alkyl phenol, an alkyl amine, a fatty acid amide or a quaternary ammonium compound of an alkyl amine. Alcohols specified are dodecyl, cetyl and oleyl alcohol, nonanol and (3:5:5 trimethyl-hexanol-1). The organic bases may be mono-, di- or tri-ethanolamine, morpholine, pyridine or laurylamine. In Examples (1) to (14) fabrics of polyethylene terephthalate staple fibre, nylon staple fibre, cellulose acetate continuous filaments, acrylonitrile fibres are treated with the compounds in aqueous solutions. In other examples lubricants for wool and other fibres comprise: (15) sperm oil, castor oil and the diethanolamine salt of the acid phosphate ester of the addition product of octyl cresyl and 9.6 mols. of ethylene oxide; (16) oleine and the diethanolamine salt of the acid phosphate ester of the addition product of octyl cresol and 7 mols. of ethylene oxide; (17) sinker oil, the diethanolamine salt of the acid phosphate ester of the addition product of nonyl phenol and 7 mols. of ethylene oxide, an addition product of oleyl alcohol and 2.5 mols. of ethylene oxide and water, acetone, glycerol or cyclo-hexanol. The lubricant of Example (17) is used for nylon yarns to facilitate knitting.
