Abstract

Threads which are liable to develop electrostatic charges during processing, are treated with an aqueous solution or emulsion of 2-10 per cent of a lubricating oil and 2-10 per cent of a condensation product obtained by the interaction of 2-6 parts by weight of ethylene oxide with 1 part by weight of a higher fatty alcohol. Threads so treated may be more easily wound into packages or woven. Cellulose acetate threads and nylon threads may be treated. The condensation product of ethylene oxide with a higher fatty alcohol may be obtained as described in Specification 380,431. In an example, a condensation product is formed by interacting 4 parts of ethylene oxide with 1 part of cetyl alcohol; of the product, 4 parts are mixed with 6.5 parts of a white mineral oil and the mixture is heated till homogeneous. Distilled water is added and the mixture is homogenized. Further water is added to make up the mixture to 100 parts by weight. The aqueous emulsion may be applied to the thread by means of a moistened roller. The amount of emulsion left on the thread may be 0.5 to 4 per cent or more of the weight of the thread.
