Ashes &c. collecting and removing.-Relates to a process for conveying dust, ash, soot &c. by air or gas pressure in which the gas stream is caused to circulate in a closed cycle. In the pneumatic clinker and ash conveying plant, shown in Fig. 1, the conveying pipe 1 leads to the receiver 4, which preferably contains liquid-sprinkling devices, the pipe 7 to the water-sealed chamber 8, the pipe 9 to the blower or fan 10, and the exhaust pipe 11, which is of larger diameter than the conveying pipe 1, extends for some distance to damp out the pulsations of the exhaust air and leads to and delivers all or part of the exhaust to the pipe 1. At the junction of the exhaust pipe 11 and the ash-conveying pipe 1 an adjustable diaphragm of the hit-and-miss or other type, or other suit able means for controlling the air or gas, may be provided, and means such as a throttle valve in the pipe 11 may be provided for controlling the amount of air entering the pipe 1. If desired the whole of the gases conveyed by the exhaust pipe may be blown into the ash-conveying pipe, and the openings into the pipe are then arranged above and below the pockets, so that material can be put into the pocket and dropped into the pipe 1.
