Limbs, artificial.-The thumb 8 of a hand fits into a capping-piece 5 and is normally closed by a spring 9; the part 5 is formed with a crank 15 having a pin 14 engaged by the hooked end of a lever 11 pivoted at 12, the other end of the lever being connected by a link to a retracting-rod 13. The pin 14 is also mounted in a slot 20 of a connecting-rod 16 jointed at 17 to the finger 6, which is thus opened with the thumb. A hooked catch 18 pivoted on the rod 16 can be released from the pin 14 by pressing down a tail-piece 18<a>. The thumb and fingers can be locked by a screw 22 and nut 24 mounted in a lever 24 which is raised until it comes in contact with the underside of the thumb-holder 5.
