Limbs, artificial.-In an artificial hand in which the pivoted thumb and grouped fingers are rocked by bell-crank levers, the fulcra 8, 9 of the bell-crank levers 6, 7 are situated within the frame 3 of the hand so that an angular movement of the levers produces a proportionately greater angular movement of the fingers and thumb, the levers being pivoted thereto at 11, 12 and provided with slotted parts 13, 14 to allow movement past the pivots 4, 5 of the fingers and thumb. Variation of the pressure applied is effected by means of a connecting-link 10, which can be adjusted between holes 10<a> in the levers 6, 7. Movement of the levers is effected through a tension and compression member 15, which connects the lever 6 with a locking-lever 16 pivoted eccentrically on a shaft 17 and provided with a spring-depressed locking-pawl 18 which can be brought into engagement with a fixed toothed segment 22 on moving a handle 21 on the shaft 17 from the upper to the lower position. Also connected to the member 15 is a tension member 23 by means of which, as well as by the handle 21, operation of the hand is effected.
