Abstract

102,263. Rohrmann, K.. F. Dec. 19, 1.914, [Convention date]. Limbs, artificial.-The fingers and thumb of an artificial hand are opened and closed by means of a lever operated by turning the stump of the forearm. The hand 12 is closed at the wrist by a plate 14, through which passes a sleeve 5 carried by a plate 6 attached to the forearm rods 3, Fig. 2. A cap 7 for the stump of the forearm is fitted with rods 8 carrying a pin 9, which passes through the sleeve 5 and is formed near its end with an hexagonal part 10, on which a forked lever 17 is held by a nut 19. Above the lever 17 is mounted a sleeve 16 bearing against a plate spring 15, the ends of which bear against the plate 14. A spring-controlled pin 23 on the forearm plate 6 passes through an aperture therein into one of a series of apertures in the plate 14. The forked lever 17 engages a lever 27 directly. attached to the pivoted thumb 26 and engaging the first and second fingers by means of a pin 29 and lever 30. The third and fourth fingers are operated against the action of springs by means of an arm 34 on the lever 27 offset in relation to the thumb pivot and engaging tension devices 37. The pin 23 may be disengaged from the plate 14, so that the hand and the stump-cap 7 may together be turned with regard to the forearm rods 3 without operating the fingers and thumb. The forefinger and thumb are faced with india-rubber or corkwood 39. The Specification also refers to hands in which a screw of rapid pitch is actuated by turning the stump of the forearm and engages a nut connected with a finger, and to hands in which tension devices acting on the fingers against springs are operated by movement of one of the joints of the arm.
