Abstract

1,140,052. Modifying metallic surfaces. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. April 5, 1967 [April 7, 1966], No. 15579/66. Heading C7U. Aluminium or aluminium alloy powder is subjected to treatment with an aqueous solution of an oxidizing agent, suitably selected from chromic and nitric acids, such as K chromate, chromates, dichromates, alkali metal nitrates, K permanganate and hydrogen peroxide, or at least 70‹ C., is rinsed with water and is boiled in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate, e. g. Na silicate. Rinsing may be effected by first agitating in 70‹ C. water and then boiling in water. The powder is thereby rendered less chemically reactive thus making it suitable, for example, for use in anti-scale paints.
