Lathes; lathe and like centres and drivers.- The Figures show the lathe as adapted to the machining of a rifle grenade P, but it can be employed on other work such as backing-off milling- cutters. The framing a has two bearings b for the main spindle c which carries fast and loose pulleys, and a bearing a<1> for the tail-stock which is fitted with a spring-centre g that can be withdrawn by a lever i. The spindle c is fitted with a driver e to suit the work and a centre f. The tool-rest k is pivoted on a spindle and is moved to and from the work by a screw q<1> and a nut s actuated by a hand-wheel r<1> or by power. The nut is mounted in a bearing carried on trunnions s'. The rest k has a dovetailed groove, one side of which is movable, to receive the tool m which is fed by a screw n and locked by a bolt o. An adjustable stop p limits the movement of the rest.
