Abstract

106,053. Burton, J. Nov. 11, 1916. Lathes for ending-up bolts &c. are provided with automatic feed and return motions. A bolt 7 is placed by hand in a holder 6, carried by a square spindle 5 fed through a lever pivoted at 21 by a cam 8 carried by a gear 9 driven at a reduced speed from the spindle. The cam-rod is guided at 15, 16, is adjustable in length at 17, and carries a cushioned abutment 24 to prevent shock on quick return by a spring 23. In a modification, the cam and lever mechanism is arranged to feed the headstock spindle that is mounted to slide through its bearings, pulley, and gear wheels. Hollow cutter-heads.-The cutter head 3 is provided with an inter-changeable steady-bush 29 held in place by the cutter 28 clamped by a screw (not shown).
