Abstract
103,745. Plonskier, M. April 28, 1916. Attachments for boring and milling; turning; reamers.- Holes, particularly those of 2¢ inches diameter and upwards, are bored from the solid at one operation by a milling-cutter located eccentrically with regard to the axis of the hole. Arranged as a lathe attachment, a head 0 is secured to the slide-rest by a shank 3 and carries a housing p vertically adjustable by screws r, s. A shank b carries a milling-spindle f journaled in ball bearings, adjustable steady-pads c, d. and a reamer 4 adjustable by backing-up screws 5 and clamped at 7. Normally, the milling-cutter a projects beyond the cutter 4; but at the close of the operation, the cutter mounting bl may be advanced by a lever 11 to finish the bottom of the bore. When boring work such as shells, a facing- cutter 13 may be mounted as shown in Fig. 6. The milling - cutter is driven through the gear train shown in Fig. 3, carried by a lever z for controlling the tension of the belt on the pulley 2. In a modification, the housing p has a rocking adjustment about an axis parallel to the cutter axis, instead of the vertical adjustment. Milling-cutters.-The cutter a is secured to the spindle f as shown in Fig. 1.
