1,131,570. Crucibles. L'AIR LIQUIDE, SOC. ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE. 21 Sept., 1966 [21 Oct., 1965; 10 Aug., 1966], No. 42257/66. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] A vessel for the treatment of molten metal has in its base a porous plug through which a gaseous treating agent is supplied. The plug has a pore size not greater than 0À1 mm., and may be made by sintering a fine-grained refractory. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the vessel 1 is connected by conduit 17 to a vacuum pump, and has a porous plug 2 through which is forced by gas pressure from cylinder 8 a halogen compound initially contained in subsidiary vessel 34 heated by coil 15. In another form of the invention the halogen compound is introduced into the molten metal by means of a plunger tube 18 (Fig. 3) closed by porous plug 19; the initially solid compound 22 is heated by coil 21 and entrained by a stream of inert gas from tube 23.
