Abstract
1,130,998. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 16 March, 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 12396/67. Heading B3M. A multi-roll stand for hot or cold rolling metal strip includes work rolls 1 which are frictionally rotated bypositively drivenbacking rolls, and are offset from the plane of the backing rolls, further rolls 3, 4 and 5, whose axes are in a common plane, supporting each work roll against horizontal movement. The bearings of each work roll are constrained by claws 14 and 21, the claw 14 being urged by a pneumatic cylinder against the roll, while the claw 21 is urged by a guiding member 24 towards the roll, and by a piston 29 and lever 30 towards the respective backing roll. A further piston 32 and cylinder 31 allows the member 24 to be retracted and the roll withdrawn. Each roll 5 is formed by a number of discs held in a roller comb 6. Balancing cylinders 12 and 20 are provided for the combs 6 and for carriers 13 housing the rolls 3, 4 and 5. For hot rolling, larger diameter work rolls are provided and lubricant for the rolls is distributed into a space bounded by the peripheries of the rolls 1, 3, 4 and 2.
