Abstract

520,920. Rolling. HOUSSMAN, J. Dec. 20, 1938, No. 37093. [Class 83 (iv)] Metal slab or ingot C is rolled into strip in a continuous mill, in which at least one of the working rolls A of each stand has a larger diameter in the middle than at the ends, the reduction in the first stand being at least 30 per cent. The first stand gives a greater reduction at the middle than at the sides, the remaining stands giving a greater reduction at the sides. The reduction in the finishing stand is at least 12 per cent. The working rolls may be cylindrical with tapered ends as in Fig. 6. Figs 4 and 5 show cross sections of the strip produced.
