Abstract

316,571. Weir, E. July 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Rolling tubes.-Tubes are rolled from hollow billets by collapsing the billet to form a flat division 23 and rolling out in a mill in which the spread of the division is controlled. A train of mills each of four coacting rolls is employed the rolls 5, 6 being of larger diameter than the rolls 7, 8. The rolls 5, 6 thus act on the billet first and prevent the rolls 7, 8 from opening it at the division. The rolls are mounted and adjusted in the manner shown and the tube is further treated as described in Specifications 312,166 and 316,212.
