Abstract

479,996. Rolling - mills. PUPPE, H. July 14, 1937, No. 19499. (Class 83 (iv)] Strip, particularly over 600 mm. wide, is reduced in a continuous rolling-mill the passes of each stand being alternately concave, Fig. 3, and convex, Fig. 4, whereby the strip remains central and scale is broken off. The radius of curvature of each concave roll is less than that of its matching convex roll so that the pass is wider at the centre. The roll passes are successively smaller with rolls of different diameters and the final pass is straight. The rolls may be backed by support rollers. The sag in the strip between roll stands may be taken up by jockey rollers.
