Abstract

353,224. Rolling. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.- (Morgan Construction Co. ; 15, Belmont Street, Worcester, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) July 4, 1930, No. 20359. [Class 83 (iv).] Strip, sheet, &c. metal during its passage through successive stands of reducing rolls is subjected at the entrance to each pass to a flexure to prevent lateral movement. Sheet metal, Fig. 8, before entering the cylindrical reducing rolls 2 passes through three concave guide-rolls 3 arranged in staggered but overlapping relationship. The material is flexed alternately in opposite directions as at 6, 7, Figs. 5 and 6. One roll 3, Fig. 8, may be swung in or out of position, this movement also controlling an apron 12 which forms a loop 13 in the material. The concave rollers may be replaced by stationary concave elements, or other flexure-producing device. The flexure is stated to loosen scale from the surface.
