Abstract

1,130,332. Running tracks, &c. surfacing. I.B.E. Ltd. 22 July, 1965 [28 July, 1964; 9 March, 1965], Nos. 29988/64 and 9958/65. Heading A6D. [Also in Divisions B1, B2 and C3] . Tennis courts and running tracks are surfaced with particulate material coated by mixing with an aqueous alkaline bituminous emulsion containing a surface active material and a demulsifying agent in an amount in excess of that required to demulsify the emulsion, the surface active material comprising an organic sulphonate containing an ether linkage, the amount of water and surface active agent being such that the emulsion is caused to break quickly to form on the particulate material a uniform coating of the coating substance. In Example 1 a labile bitumen emulsion containing a sodium salt of 4-dodecylated diphenyl ether disulphonic acid, nonylphenol ethylene oxide condensate containing 50 mols ethylene oxide per mol of nonylphenol, N, N-dimethyl-N-dodecylamine oxide and a solution of glue in water is prepared. In Example 3 a composition for surfacing hard tennis courts is prepared by mixing sisal cuttings, dust granite, cork, hydrated lime, red oxide, the bitumen emulsion described in Example 1. In Example 4 a composition for surfacing indoor running tracks is prepared by mixing rubber crumb, hydrated lime, glass fibre, water, the bitumen emulsion described in Example 1.
