Abstract
1,181,432. Fire-proof coatings. ROCKWOOL A.B. 26 Jan., 1967, No. 3886/67. Heading B2K. A cellular polystyrene is coated by adding to a mixture of water and a quantity of liquid water glass, solid water-free water glass in amount of between 10% to 150% by weight of the quantity of liquid water glass, applying a layer of resultant composition to the surface of the cellular plastics material and allowing the layer to set. The liquid water glass may be mixed with a filler before addition of the water-free water glass. The filler may be of fibrous mineral wool, asbestos, quartzite or diatomaceous earth. It may be present in amount of 5 to 80% of the total amount of the water glass. Litharge may be added to the water-free water glass before addition to the liquid water glass. A cellulose derivative may be present such as mono-ethylcellulose.
