Abstract

The solids in a mortar mix comprising hydraulic binder and aggregate are present in the following percentage proportions by weight:-size a=up to 0,2 mm. at least 25; size b=0,2 to 1 mm. at least 8; and size c=1 to 15 mm. not exceeding 62; the components of size a including at least 5 of the hydraulic binder. Specified components are: for the binder-cement and sulphate metallurgical cement; for the aggregate-sand, gravel, ground latex and rubber, fibres of nylon, wood and asbestos, peat, trass and lavalit; and for processing in an extrusion press 6 to 18 per cent of a highly aqueous liquid, containing latex or hardenable synthetic resins, e.g., aminoplasts or polyvinyl chloride and/or polyvinyl acetate is added. The mortar mix may be heated prior to or during its passage through the press as well as being subjected to gas or steam pressure.
