Abstract
1,125,072. Improving physical properties; working at specified temperatures. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 13 March, 1967 [28 March, 1966], No. 11617/67. Heading B3V. [Also in Division C7] Alloys of zinc and aluminium capable of showing superplasticity are solution treated, quenched and worked as by forging, rolling or extrusion, at less than 400‹ F. Treatment of the eutectoid composition 78% Zn, 22% A1, with or without 0.02% Mg or 0.05% Mn, is particularly referred to. Solution treatment may be carried out in an oven or in a heated press, while quenching may be by immersion or by spray. As exemplified, test pieces were given a deformation of 50% by rolling; for comparative purposes rolling was also carried out at 500‹ and 600‹ F.
