Abstract

1,123,082. Loud-speakers. GOODMANS LOUDSPEAKERS Ltd. 19 April, 1967 [25 April, 1966], No. 17909/66. Heading H4J. In a method of making a moving coil loudspeaker, a non-ferrous ring or cup 8 is interposed between a centre pole 4 and a magnet pot 1. The cup 8 has spaced lugs 10 around its periphery clamped between a front plate 5 and the pot 1. Axial pressure is applied to the assembly to cause the lugs 10 to be embedded in the front plate 5 and the pot 1 with distortion of these members 1, 5 to lock the components together (Fig. 2 not shown). Loss of magnetic path between the members 1, 5 is at a minimum. The cup 8 may include an inwardly-directed flange 8a received upon an annular shoulder 9 on the centre pole 4 during the pressing operation. A flanged ring or cup (13), Fig. 4 (not shown), may assist in centring the pole 4 and a cylindrical magnet 2. Alternatively the locating cup 8 may have a downwardly facing lip (12), Fig. 3 (not shown), which bears upon the rim of a shoulder of the pole 4. The assembly may be permanently fastened together by a swaging, staking, screwing or welding operation. Thus a rib 14 may be subjected to staking to deform it into locking engagement with a chassis (16, Fig. 2 (not shown), and with the front plate 5. A sleeve 3 of cardboard or plastics centres the magnet 2. Prior to pressing, a steel tube 11 is inserted to maintain the air gap 7.
