Abstract
1,003,150. Loud-speakers; circuits for magrietic instruments. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Dec. 19, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1961], No. 48019/61. Heading H4J. Leakage flux from a moving-coil transducer is utilized for deriving an output voltage corresponding to the motion of the coil. This output voltage may provide a negative feedback signal which limits distortion of the transducer. A loud-speaker 8, Fig. 1, has a cone 10 connected at one end to a voice coil 14. A magnetic field structure 18 includes a cup-shaped yoke 20 of cold rolled steel and a plate 22 having a cylindrical opening 24 forming one face of an air gap 29 for the moving coil 14. The other face is provided by a cylindrical polepiece 28 at one end of an " ALNICO " magnet 26. Centring is provided by a brass clamping ring 30. Leakage flux is picked up by a coil 42 wound on a cylindrical pole member 38 which is secured to a cold rolled steel magnetic structure 36 by soldering, cementing or by a screw (not shown). The top of pole member 38 has a boss 40 of reduced diameter which is secured in a hole 41 in yoke 20 by a force fit, swaging, cementing or soldering. In a modification, Fig. 2, cylindrical magnet 52 is disposed centrally in the yoke 50 by a deformed retaining ring 54. The voice coil 64 is disposed in an air gap defined by the outer periphery of magnet 52 and the inner periphery of cup-shaped yoke 50. Pick-up coil 78 is responsive to leakage flux. Local circuit.-A centre-tapped voice coil 81 of a loud-speaker 80 is driven by an amplifier stage 86 and a push-pull output stage 88. The signal is derived from the detector of a radio receiver and is applied through volume control 84. Pick-up coil 82 (which corresponds to pickup coil 42 or 78) provides a negative feedback signal which is applied across terminals 91, 93. A resistor 90 attenuates the negative feedback signal while a capacitor 92 limits its highfrequency components.
