Abstract

1,111,657. Agitating and homogenizing liquids. SILVERSON MACHINES Ltd. 23 Nov., 1964 [22 Nov., 1963], No. 46237/63. Heading B1C. Apparatus for mixing a liquid with an abrasive solid and reducing the size of the solid particles comprises an impeller rotating in a stator 3 having outlet apertures 6, the impeller being secured to a long shaft 2 the lower end of which is supported by a steady bearing 23 in a fixed tube 22. A coaxial protective sleeve 24 has a fluid-tight connection at 27 to the shaft 2 and rotates therewith, its upper end being steadied by a bearing 28. In operation the liquid level is slightly below the upper end of the sleeve 24. In a modification the flange 26 of the sleeve 24 is in contact with the upper face 7 of the impeller.
