Abstract

1464784 Agitating and aerating liquids H MULLER 28 Nov 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 51627/74 Heading B1C Apparatus for dispersing gases in a fermentation liquid comprises a container 1 with a centrifugal impeller 5 having radial vanes 10, an axial extension 8 rotating with the impeller, and a second venturi-like axial extension 9. Liquid circulates downwardly through the fixed tube 11 and is ejected between the vanes 10, while gas is induced through the coaxial fixed tube 12 and rotatable impeller extension 8 and is ejected through funnelshaped elements 15, the impeller being rotated with the apices of the funnels leading. Part of the gas flow also passes through the apertures 14 to disperse in the circulatory liquid. In a modification (see Fig. 3, not shown) the elements 15 are supplied with gas through a passage in the impeller shaft so that the flow paths are kept separate and two gases which must not come into contact before dispersion (e.g. air and methane) may be fed in.
