Abstract

1,221,022. Aerating and agitating liquids; froth flotation apparatus. JONES & ATTWOOD Ltd. 30 April, 1968 [8 Dec., 1967], No. No. 20358/68. Headings B1C and B2H. Circulation apparatus for aerating and agitating a liquid comprises a container 1 (which may be closed) with a, draught tube 3, a helical impellar 18 for circulating liquid through the tube, and a tube 9 coaxial with the impeller shaft 11 down which gas is induced by a centrifugal pump constituted by a rotor 16 mounted on the shaft 11 and having radial blades 17, and a stator consisting of radial blades 15 mounted on the bottom of the tube 9. Incoming liquid is supplied to the interior of the draught tube 3 by conduit 19 and the liquid level in the apparatus is controlled by the overflow tube 21. The gas/liquid contact time may be altered by reversing the motor 12 and hence the direction of circulation. The apparatus is suitable for chemical and biological reactions and flotation separation.
