1,104,486. Series fired furnaces. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. 18 May, 1965 [22 May, 1964], No. 20960/65. Heading F4B. A series-fired furnace for baking articles, particularly carbon blocks with volatile binders for the production of graphite, comprises single compartment roasting chambers in a multiple of four, each compartment 200 having a baffled heating wall 210, 220 at either side fed from a common combustion chamber 230 at one end and leading to a common flue 240 at the other end. The chambers 200 are arranged in pairs with the long walls together, and the pairs are arranged end-to-end so that a continuous flue gas path is formed from the common combustion chamber 230 of one furnace chamber of a pair, through its parallel heating walls 210, 220 to the common flue 240, thence to the common combustion chamber of the other furnace chamber of the pair, through its heating walls and common flue to the chambers of the opposed pair, or to an adjacent chamber placed at its side. If more than four chambers are used, a sinuous gas path is formed in the heating walls of the chambers of one series arranged in pairs before the gas flow passes to the heating walls of a second series of chambers arranged end-toend with those of the first series.
