Abstract

1,091,594. Railway vehicle undercarriages. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 20, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 16994/64. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle bogie, particularly a locomotive bogie, comprises a frame 1 supported on three axles 4, 5, 6, the axle boxes 11, 14 and 12 at each side of the frame 1 and below the axles being pivotally connected with a set of three beams 7, 13 and 8, the outer beams 7, 8 having pivoted thereto helical springs 9, 10 supporting the frame 1 from the beams 7, 8. The beam 13 is pivoted centrally of its length, at 13a, to a stirrup 14a on the axle box 14. The beams 7, 8 carry knife edges 7b, 8b at their inner ends pivotally connected to the ends of the beam 13. The outer ends of the beams 7, 8 have knife edges 7a, 8a pivoted to stirrups 11a 12a on the axle boxes 11, 12. The arrangement of the springs 9, 10 is such that the beams distribute the load on the frame substantially equally between the axles. The frame has a main centre pivot 2 and two side bearers 3.
