Abstract

1,157,326. Underframes. DEUTSCHE WAGGON - UND MASCHINENFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 8 July, 1966 [27 Aug., 1965 (2)], No. 30894/66. Heading B7L. In a railway vehicle underframe comprising longitudinal side members 11, Fig. 1, and thrust members 12 having diagonally extending portions and extending the whole length of the underframe and attached to headstocks 13, which members 11, 12 absorb the thrusts of the side buffers 15, there is provided between and near each end of each thrust member 12 and the adjacent longitudinal member 11 a bridge member 16, the opposed members 16 being connected through bolt pivots 17 with the ends of a transverse support element 18 for the inner end of a housing 19 for a central buffer (not shown). Each bolt 17 is so positioned that the load distribution between the members 11, 12 is uniform both for side buffer and central buffer operation. In another embodiment the members 16 are each connected to a pair of struts connected to the ends of the housing 19, one strut being in compression and the other in tension. In a further embodiment the inner end of the housing is connected to thrust struts connected to the headstock near the side buffers.
