Abstract

1483176 Tank wagons PROCOR (UK) Ltd 1 Aug 1974 [1 May 1973] 20710/73 Heading B7L A railway tank wagon having two axles comprises a barrel member 1 supported along its length by side sills 4 running between headstocks 5 at each end of the wagon and also supported over each axle by a saddle assembly 2 comprising a transverse beam 17 fitting the under surface of the barrel member 1 and two side plates 16 fitting the curvature of the barrel member and positioned laterally externally of the side sills 4. Each headstock 5 has buffers 21 and drawcoupling means 22 from which axial loads are transmitted to the side sills by shear loading of plates 23, each plate 23 being attached to a headstock 5 and to the stems of T-shaped bass 11 in each side sill. The head of each T bar 11 is supported on a pedestal mounting plate 6 at each end of the wagon, and each side sill also comprises another T-shaped bar 12 the head of which is fixed to the barrel member 1 and the stem of which is connected to that of the bar 11 by a filler plate 13. The barrel member 1 is internally reinforced by circumferential supports 9 each positioned over a transverse strengthening member 8 which extends between the side sills 4 to resist lateral buckling of the side sills.
