Abstract
780,696. Brake beams. BUFFALO BRAKE BEAM CO. Feb. 17, 1956 [Feb. 18, 1955], No. 5076/56. Class 103 (1). A railway brake beam for two coaxial wheels of a railway car comprises a truss having a substantially straight compression member 20, a tension member 22 in the form of a V, said members being rigidly secured together at each end, and strut means 32 between the tension member and compression member, a brake head flange 38 at each end of the truss for a brake shoe, a mounting bracket 37 for said brake head flange 38, means rigidly connecting said bracket 37 to one of said members 20 and 22 at each end of the truss mainly against movement relative to the truss in one direction, and a wedgeshaped key connection between one of said members and said bracket 37 at each end of the truss defining relatively inclined pressure planes arranged to exert wedging pressure in a direction transverse to said one direction and thereby to restrict movement of the bracket relative to the truss in said transverse direction.
