BOGIE FOR RAILWAY CARS AND THE LIKE.
Application filed November 11, 1925, Serial No. 68,259, and in Sweden November 17, 1924.
This invention relates to improvements in bogies `for railway cars and the like.
The object of the invention is to prevent journal boxes containing a single self-adjusting ball or roller bearing from tilting and thus secure a stable. position of the boxes. To this end, a rigid frame is attached, according to the invention, to all the boxes, at points below their centres, the load being transmitted through the said frame to the boxes. This frame, suitably, consists of two beams, simple or compound, each below the boxes on one side, the said beams being connected through rigid connections in order to prevent their turning on an axis parallel to the rail direction.k In order to allow the boxes to turn relatively to the frame in a vertical plane parallel to the rail direction, then traine is suitably provided, at
the points of suspension at the boxes, with pivots parallel to the wheel axles.
In the drawings, a suspension device for the bogie frame of a railway car, arranged according to the invention, is shown by way of example. F ig. l is a side view of one haltl of a bogie. Fig. 2 is a plan View of one fourth of the said bogie parts being in section.
In the embodiment shown, the bogie frame l bears through springs 3 on a frame consisting of longitudinal beams 4 connected by cross pieces 5. Each beam consists of two parallel bars having at their ends holes for pins 6 passing through corresponding holes in a downward projection 7 from the 35 journal box 2.
I claim l. Improvements lin bogies for railway cars and the like, characterized by a box containing a single self-adjusting bearing mounted on each journal, and a rigid frame suspended on all the journal boxes, at points below their centres, for transmitting the load to the boxes, such frame at each side consisting of two longitudinal beams below the. boxes, the said beams being connected together by rigid connections in order to prevent their turning on an axis parallel to the rail direction.
2. A device according to claim l, charac- 5o terized bythe frame being provided, at the points of suspension on the boxes, with pivots parallel to the wheel axles Vso as to allow the boxes to turn relatively to the frame in a Vertical plane parallel to the ra'l 55 direction.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name.
N ILSv ARVID PALMGREN.
