Abstract
1,089,673. Electric resistance furnaces. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 27, 1965 [March 12, 1964], No. 10442/64. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F4] A vacuum furnace comprises a pressure vessel 1, graphite heating elements 4 within said vessel 1, forming a cubical outer furnace chamber 5 and independently operable further heating elements 13 within the outer furnace chamber 5 to form a cylindrical inner furnace chamber 12. The vessel 1, cooled by pipe coils 11 and provided with a door 3 has its outer labyrinth slotted heating slabs 4, to which power is provided by electrodes 7, 8 thermally insulated by metallic heat reflecting material 10. The two slotted semi-cylindrical inner graphite heating elements 13, fed by electrodes 17, 18 through ceramically coated lugs 15, 16, and covered by a removable insulated lid 25, rest on a stand 20 which also supports a surrounding tubular insulating casing 23 formed of two semi-cylindrical parts.
