Abstract
1,133,136. Induction furnaces. TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUTE CHERNOI METALLURGII IMENI BARDINA. 23 Feb., 1966, No. 8000/66. Heading H5H. An electric induction furnace comprises a gas-tight side wall 7, electrically non-conducting end members 3, 4, a coil 2, a working chamber 16 of high temperature electrically conducting material within the coil and a heat-insulating refractory material 14 filling the space between the chamber and the wall. The coil comprising a coiled Cu pipe 1 of rectangular cross-section is coated with an epoxy resin impregnated glass cloth and placed between the end members to form a gas-tight jacket. A water-cooled cover 8 of glass cloth is secured by clamps 9 over a hole in member 3 and a water-cooled drip pan 11 is mounted in the bottom plate 4. The tubular Mo working chamber 16 with a viewing pipe 22 is surrounded by Al 2 O 3 or ZrO 2 . Mo, W and alloys may be sintered in hydrogen passed into the vessel through pipes 21, 23, air being exhausted through the drip pan.
