Abstract

Sheath is cylindrical and is stoppered at one end. Current leads are at the other end. Within the sheath is a heating resistor comprising two half-tubes concentric with the sheath, which delimit a cylindrical volume. A metal electric-circuit closing button closes the end of the volume opposite to the leads. A cylinder, with or without diametrically opposed fins, is of powdered electrical insulator and is between the two half tubes. An electrical insulator of good thermal conductivity is between the resistance, the sheath and the powder. Pref. the sheath is of Ta, stainless steel, or inconel, or of a Nb alloy, e.g. with 1% Zr. The resistor is of Ni-Cr, stainless steel or Monel metal, or refractory metal, e.g. Mo-Re. The insulator cylinder is Al2O3 or BeO. The other insulator is boron nitride.
