Abstract

1,142,935. Electric resistance furnaces. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 2 March, 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 12010/66. Heading H5H. A resistance furnace comprises a tubular graphite heating element 4, Fig. 1, mounted on tapered supply electrodes 6 received in tapered bores 5. Element 4 also includes arcuate slots 10, Fig. 2, along its entire length and slit at 12. A graphite block 13, Fig. 1, with a thermocouple 8 supports material to be heated. The furnace casing la, 1b, 1c and electrodes 6 have water cooled channels W. The casing is hermetically sealed and encloses an inert atmosphere.
