A resistance thermometer has a flexible cable structure having leads each formed with a low resistivity core (of copper, silver or gold) strengthened with a thin sheath of mechanically and thermally stable material (iron-nickelchromium, nickel-chromium iron, or nickelchromium), the leads and sensing element being contained in a sheath packed with powdered insulating material (alumina or magnesia). The sensing element may be a semi-conductor element, a hot-conductor of low resistance at room temperature, or a single or multiple platinum winding.
